Happy Town Sam Neill on the small locale with big big secrets

We"re in the last widen to the entrance of ABCs new dim comedy,&"Happy Town" -- and actress Sam Neill says you can design to find a little critical amusement in this show about "a small locale with big, big secrets."The previews (which have been using nonstop on ABC) give you the sense that the show is all spirit and no shouting matter. But whenchatted with New Zealand-born Neill, who plays the puzzling Merritt Grieves, we were astounded to listen to that it was the scripts humerous entertainment that helped coax his move to "Happy Town."What captivated you to this project?"I think the this essay that done me giggle similar to a drain, and I found it frightful and frightful and I longed for to know what happened next. Thats what great radio essay does for me. I longed for to balance in subsequent week and be in that episode."Clearly the a thriller, a attempted murder mystery. But what I quite similar to about it is the kind of bizarre dim humerous entertainment that runs by it."Did the writers/producers keep you in the dim about whats function next?"I knew what was function in the subsequent episode, but what happened after that, no. They on purpose funded that things from us .... We were well-briefed on who we were and where we"d come from, and a little of that things we had to keep tip from each other. But what happened the subsequent after next, we were vehement to get those episodes to see what only we were going to be concerned in."What about your character, Merrit Grieves? What appealed to you about this sold role?"Everybodys got secrets in this show, and hes got probably some-more than most. He along with Henley [Boone] are sort of the dual outsiders. They"re the dual people from out of town. Why hes in this small locale and since hes non-stop a movie memorabilia emporium in a place thats not quite meddlesome in the movies -- most less memorabilia -- thats appealing in itself. Clearly hes after something ... well, not something. Quite a lot. Hes on a quest. As well as Henley -- she is as well. So they turn sort of doubtful partners in crime."When do we begin to sense some-more about who Merrit Grieves unequivocally is?"Probably in to 3 and 4 ... something similar to that. But there are still questions unanswered at the finish of this -- as far as Merritt goes."I"ve review that the writers/producers are perplexing hang up questions in each part so as to not leave the spectator hanging, but afterwards open up some-more questions at the same time. Is that the case?"Thats true. And at the finish of the 8 hours, we will know who the Magic Man is. But that will in itself open new questions."Any hints on who the Magic Man competence be?"What I will contend is ... dont take the Magic Man as well literally. The Magic Man could be some-more than one person. It might not be a man. The Magic Man could be an thought rather than a verbatim person. Dont be fooled."What desirous the creators to come up with a judgment similar to this?"The producers were in New Zealand in my small locale [Queenstown]. They were carrying a coffee in the sun, examination people travel past saying, "This is only perfect, isnt it? Its as well undiluted to be true. Theres got to be things underneath this undiluted surface." And thats what proposed them riffing off of the thought of a small locale where everythings not as it seems."Would you contend all the comparisons to "Twin Peaks" are accurate?"Its twenty years given I"ve seen "Twin Peaks," but "Twin Peaks" was ... surreal, wasnt it? And unequivocally strange. I"d contend this is some-more similar to your small locale than a little kind of fabulous small locale out West."On Neills experience operative with the alternative "Happy Town" actors:"I had a round and not only since of the writing, but since I desired operative with these alternative actors too. It was such fun."A lot of unequivocally funny, intelligent actors in this show. They unequivocally have a great time."I dont think theres any one on this show that didnt have me laugh. And I done a little unequivocally great friends. I cant wait for to get back. I miss them.""Happy Town" will premiere at 10 p.m. ET Wednesday, Apr 28.Follow&Zap2it, Zap2itChristine for the ultimate TV, movie and luminary news.Related:"Happy Town" finds a home on ABC"Happy Town" initial look: Preview ABCs midseason mysterySteven Weber is relocating to "Happy Town"Photo credit: ABC&
